2006 Camp Sidrabene Programme
In addition to the regular stuff (sports, campfires, singing,
dances, movies, games, arts and crafts, Nature hikes, pottery,
and dialy swimming lessons), Sidrabene offers a variety of
extra programs for ultra-motivated and active campers.
This year's activities include: Horseback riding (Weeks 1,3
and 5. +$90), Skateboarding (Week 2. +$40), Woodworking
(Week 1),Martial Arts (Week 3. +$20),Magic Lessons
(Week 4. +$20)and Jewellery making (Week 5. +$40).
This year's programme also has a series of weekly day
trips as part of the regular camp session. Campers can
look forward to:
Week/nedela #1 - Day trip to Saulaine
Week/nedela #2 - Rock Climbing day trip
(not including calu kalns)
Week /nedela #4 - Day trip to water park
Week/nedela # 5 - "Day trip to Kelso
Conservation area
Although Sidrabene is for all children, we have a strong
emphasis on using Latvian as much as humanly possible
without "shutting out" a portion of the campers.
As we are a Latvian camp, our goal is for campers to walk
away with a better understanding of Latvia, it's history, language
and customs. Those of you lucky enough to have caught our
wonderful 50th Anniversary show would have noticed that the
programme was done completely in Latvian. This was a great
achievment considering less than 30% of the children spoke
Latvian fluently, if at all. We're here to make learning it fun, not overbearing.
Once again this year campers will have daily swimming lessons
as part of the regular camp programme. They will work daily to
achieve the highest "Aqua Quest" level possible. It is encouraged
(for best fit) that children unable to swim bring their own life jackets
or PFD's, however, plenty will be made available through the camp.
